• Read the Poster Guidelines in their entirety. Applications that do not follow these guidelines will not be considered.

Industry & Community STEM Initiatives

Community partners are encouraged to submit abstracts describing the development and/or implementation of community-supported STEM education programs. This category includes but is not limited to industry and STEM-related nonprofit organizations. Ideal abstracts will include a description of a program-related, hands-on STEM lesson or activity that can be highlighted during the poster presentation. Each poster should be large-format and include at least one visual representation of the program (e.g. example lesson/activity, illustration, photographs, manipulative).

K-12 STEM Initiatives

Individuals who have developed and/or implemented programs in the area of STEM education are encouraged to apply. This category includes but is not limited to STEM fairs and STEM-related after-school clubs (e.g. robotics clubs, science/math clubs). Each poster should include at least one visual representation of the program (e.g. example lesson/activity, illustration, photographs, manipulative).

Research in STEM Education

Individuals who have conducted original research or program projects in the area of STEM education are encouraged to apply. Faculty, research scientists, students and others are encouraged to apply. Each poster should be large-format and include at least one visual representation of findings (e.g. chart, graph, illustration).

University STEM Initiatives

University educators are encouraged to submit abstracts describing the development and/or implementation of privately, state or federally funded STEM education programs. This category includes, but is not limited to, university STEM-focused educational centers and active grant programs. Ideal abstracts will include a description of a program-related, hands-on STEM lesson or activity that can be highlighted during the poster presentation. Each poster should be large-format and include at least one visual representation of the program (e.g. example lesson/activity, illustration, photographs).

Other

We encourage you to apply even if your poster does not fit into any of the defined categories.

General

• Applications are evaluated by a panel of peer reviewers. Résumés are not required from the author(s) or the overseeing instructor.
• The conference reserves the right to forbid the display or handout of any material inappropriate in nature or not in compliance with these guidelines.
• STEM-related businesses that wish to present a for-profit program do not qualify for inclusion in the poster session. Interested parties should visit the Exhibitors or Become a Sponsor pages for information on how to become a conference exhibitor or sponsor.
• No solicitation is allowed. No products may be sold nor orders taken for a product or service.

Your Abstract

The online application form accepts only plain text (no formatting can be applied). Please avoid entering special characters, symbols, charts or graphics within the abstract text. Abstracts will not be edited for content, so make sure to double-check for typos and grammatical errors before you submit your application.

The Introduction/Background, Methods, Results and Discussion/Conclusion(s) sections should be no more than 300 words combined.

Poster Appearance

Display Size

• Each presenter is allowed a 4’ × 4′ corkboard area.

Poster Title

• All capital letters
• Bold
• No underline

Font Size

• 15-point minimum for content in tables
• 24-point minimum for all other content

Location

• Poster must cite institution/facility where research, program or project was completed.
• City and state must be included.

Visual Aids

• Graphics must be simple, colorful, well labeled and clearly legible from a distance of 5 feet.
• Visual aids should not be mounted on heavy boards that are difficult to keep in place on a corkboard.
• A sign for display on the corkboard must be prepared that includes the poster title, the name(s) of the author(s)/presenter(s) and the affiliation.
• Supplies (thumbtacks) to attach the poster to the corkboard are the responsibility of the presenter.
• Presenters are not allowed to write on, paint on or otherwise permanently deface the corkboard.

Handouts

• Reproduction of handouts related to the presentation is at the expense of the presenter.
• 100 to 150 copies should be prepared.
• A signup sheet may be beneficial in case handouts are depleted.

Presence at the Conference

• Each person who will be physically present for your poster presentation must purchase a conference registration.
• Each poster will be assigned a time slot, which will be communicated to presenters well in advance of the conference.
• The presence of at least one author is required during the entire time slot for each poster. If this is not feasible, an appropriate representative from the entity offering the presentation must be present during the entire time slot.
• Presenters must be prepared to answer questions and give short, informal talks on the work referenced.
